Milkweed Meadow

This small front yard used to be a lawn, but was converted to an experimental meadow by selectively removing chunks of sod and seeding orange butterfly milkweed. Other plants include coneflowers,  brown-eyed susans, tall and short native grasses, lupines, and even cranberry plants (a wonderful groundcover in moist soil). Pollinators and birds are abundant. Right beside the sidewalk, the meadow regularly takes on insults such as road salt and stray feet.
